MERCURY
The Swift Messenger
◇ First Stop: Scorched Velocity ◇
You've arrived at the innermost world, a realm of extremes where the Sun dominates the sky with overwhelming presence. Mercury races around our star faster than any other planet, completing its orbit in just 88 Earth days. This is a world of contradictions—blazing hot by day, freezing cold by night, where time moves differently and shadows dance across ancient craters.
The surface beneath your vessel is scarred by billions of years of cosmic bombardment. Giant impact basins tell stories of violent collisions from the solar system's youth. No atmosphere protects this world—it stands naked before the stellar wind, battered and resilient, a testament to endurance in the harshness environment imaginable.
∴ Ode to the Swift Messenger ∴
Racing 'round the solar heart,
Where shadows stretch a hundred miles
And daylight burns with fervent art.
No breath of wind, no whispered sound,
Just ancient craters, deep and round,
A battlefield of cosmic time—
Where silence reigns, profound, sublime.
You dance so close to heaven's fire,
Yet ice persists in depths most dire,
Paradox of heat and frost,
A world where all extremes are crossed.
◇ Observations & Mysteries ◇
Despite its proximity to Earth, Mercury remains one of the least explored planets. Only two spacecraft have ever visited: Mariner 10 in the 1970s and MESSENGER in the 2000s. What they revealed was astonishing—water ice hiding in permanently shadowed craters at the poles, despite surface temperatures hot enough to melt lead at the equator.
The planet's core is enormous, making up 85% of its radius. This gives Mercury the second-highest density of any planet, creating a powerful magnetic field unexpected for such a small world. Strange hollows dot the surface, their formation still debated by scientists. Mercury keeps secrets even as it bathes in the Sun's glare.

∴ The Innermost Truth ∴
A footnote in the cosmic sprawl—
But you've endured four billion years
Of solar fury's blazing call.
Your face is worn, your body dense,
Your orbit swift, your days immense,
You teach us what it means to last
When standing in the present's blast.
